FAQs

What happens when I have a treatment?

Your first treatment will begin with a full consultation, which can take around 20 minutes. During this time I will take a brief medical history and ask you about your lifestyle and any stresses in your life. This will help me to develop a treatment plan to suit your requirements. I will also answer any questions you may have. Please be reassured that all the information you give me is completely confidential.

You will then be seated in a reclining chair with your shoes and socks off. At this point please don't apologise! People are often very conscious about their feet, but I can assure you I've seen it all before! The important thing is for you to relax. The treatment consists of 3 stages -

  • A relaxing foot massage involving movements to relax the feet, and loosen the ankles.
  • Reflexology techniques to stimulate and soothe the feet, paying attention to any areas of congestion and imbalances I may find.
  • I finish the treatment with a relaxing foot massage using a handmade foot cream with pure essential oils. You will then be given a complementary pot of foot cream to continue using at home.

How long does a session last?

The first session usually lasts around an hour and a half to allow for me to complete your consultation and get to know you and your requirements. Further treatments last around an hour.

Does it tickle?

Lots of people are worried that they can't have Reflexology because they're ticklish. This isn't a problem - light, firm pressure is applied and even the most ticklish people find they don't have a problem.

Will it hurt?

You may find that some areas of congestion are tender or feel bruised but the treatment shouldn't be painful. I will check with you during the treatment that you are comfortable and will adapt my pressure to suit you.

I have a verucca. Can I still have treatment?

Many people have corns, callouses, verrucas and all manner of ailments on their feet. To a reflexologist these can be important signs. They don't prevent you from having a treatment. If a part of your foot is inaccessible for some reason, then the hand can be treated instead.

What if I fall asleep?

Reflexology can be extremely relaxing and many people fall asleep during the treatment. I usually play relaxing music and have scented candles which also helps with relaxation.

How will I feel after a treatment?

After one or two treatments your body may respond in a very definite way. Most people note a feeling of well-being and relaxation, others may feel very energised. Some people feel emotional, nauseous or lethargic. Reflexology also helps remove toxins and you may find you experience increased urination or bowel movements over the next few hours. This is transitory and shows your body is responding to the treatment. Just drink plenty of water in the following 24 hours after your treatment, and this will help with the natural healing process.

How many treatments should I have?

Everyone is individual and some people respond to reflexology more quickly than others. For some specific issues a series of 4-6 weekly treatments can be helpful and get to the root of the issue. Any complementary therapy works on a subtle level, and sometimes the body needs space and time to relax, unwind, and remind itself that it is receiving healing. Once it gets into a rhythm, treatments can be dropped to once or twice a month – or however often you feel it is appropriate to receive them.
